As I like to read stuff about bloggers I use to socialize, I thought it would be a bit unfair not to put some lines about me. So, here we go.
lu-kFirst, my real name is Lucas. I just used the French phonetics /lyka/ to make my nickname lu-k. Could not have been simpler. It looks a bit weird though and might not be instinctive if you try to prononciate it. Mmmhh nevermind.
As you may have already figured, I am French. And I live in a lovely south-western city called Bayonne, which you may have already heard about its ham, chocolate or summer festivities.

What do I do?

  • Aug. 2007 – Present (Bayonne, FR) Software developer and Consultant, Capgemini France
Our team works with European partners in the aerospace industry and currently contributes to the development of the navigation satellite system Galileo by providing real-time monitoring tools for the ground segment. We also delivered monitoring tools for air traffic management systems.
Currently in charge of the development, support and maintenance of a real-time acquisition and storage system which receives, decodes and processes raw data from sensor stations, and forwards them to other analysis tools. I deal with time and ressource consuming optimization, multithreading, concurrent access, network communcation issues. Programming languages used are JAVA, C, XML, MySQL. Modeling language UML involved too.

Furthermore my education is mostly centered on internet technologies and software engineering, which makes me familiar with other languages like PHP, Javascript/JQuery and CSS I regularly use to keep up and improve this website.
I speak French, English, some Spanish and I am learning Japanese. そして 私は日本語をべんきょうしています でも難しいです。頑張ります!

Job apart, music takes an important part in my daily life. I love classic jazz and have great times playing with a band made of comrades who love having fun while playing and make people dance and laugh. I play the trombone since I am kid, know how to line up few notes on a piano keyboard and try to learn how to play the bass guitar. I am not bad with a flute as well, and since I came back from Japan I have started to play the shakuhachi.

The few remaining of my spare time is generally busy with animes and video games. Born in ’84, I grew up with Mario and Son Gohan. But at that time, I was far from suspecting this would become such a passion, since I was also surrounded by many French comics and had a lot of sport and music activities.
But finally, Japanese pop culture, which includes animes, figurines, games, cosplay etc. gained the upper hand, and led me to great experiences, starting from sharing my passion through this blog, to meeting and making friend with great and interesting comrades all over the world.

Other Activities

  • Jan. 2010 – Present (world wide web) English to French Translator
Running a photoblog about anime character figurines brought me to meet Danny Choo, top Tokyo blogger who writes about life in Japan and Japanese pop culture on dannychoo.com, a real portal to Japan. And to reach more and more readers from all over the world, I help Danny to prepare the launch of the French version of dannychoo.com by translating the English content into French while using my knowledge on Japanese pop culture to give French-speaking readers the best transcription of Danny’s words.
