As I like to read stuff about bloggers I use to socialize, I thought it would be a bit unfair not to put some lines about me. So, here we go.
First, my real name is Lucas. I just used the French phonetics /lyka/ to make my nickname lu-k. Could not have been simpler. It looks a bit weird though and might not be instinctive if you try to prononciate it. Mmmhh nevermind.
As you may have already figured, I am French. And I live in a lovely south-western city called Bayonne, which you may have already heard about its ham, chocolate or summer festivities.

What do I do?

  • Aug. 2007 – Present (Bayonne, FR) Software developer and Consultant, Capgemini France
Our team works with European partners in the aerospace industry and currently contributes to the development of the navigation satellite system Galileo by providing real-time monitoring tools for the ground segment. We also delivered monitoring tools for air traffic management systems.
Currently in charge of the development, support and maintenance of a real-time acquisition and storage system which receives, decodes and processes raw data from sensor stations, and forwards them to other analysis tools. I deal with time and ressource consuming optimization, multithreading, concurrent access, network communcation issues. Programming languages used are JAVA, C, XML, MySQL. Modeling language UML involved too.

Furthermore my education is mostly centered on internet technologies and software engineering, which makes me familiar with other languages like PHP, Javascript/JQuery and CSS I regularly use to keep up and improve this website.
I speak French, English, some Spanish and I am learning Japanese. そして 私は日本語をべんきょうしています でも難しいです。頑張ります!

Job apart, music takes an important part in my daily life. I love classic jazz and have great times playing with a band made of comrades who love having fun while playing and make people dance and laugh. I play the trombone since I am kid, know how to line up few notes on a piano keyboard and try to learn how to play the bass guitar. I am not bad with a flute as well, and since I came back from Japan I have started to play the shakuhachi.

BayonneBayonne

The few remaining of my spare time is generally busy with animes and video games. Born in ’84, I grew up with Mario and Son Gohan. But at that time, I was far from suspecting this would become such a passion, since I was also surrounded by many French comics and had a lot of sport and music activities.
But finally, Japanese pop culture, which includes animes, figurines, games, cosplay etc. gained the upper hand, and led me to great experiences, starting from sharing my passion through this blog, to meeting and making friend with great and interesting comrades all over the world.

Other Activities

  • Jan. 2010 – Present (world wide web) English to French Translator
Running a photoblog about anime character figurines brought me to meet Danny Choo, top Tokyo blogger who writes about life in Japan and Japanese pop culture on dannychoo.com, a real portal to Japan. And to reach more and more readers from all over the world, I help Danny to prepare the launch of the French version of dannychoo.com by translating the English content into French while using my knowledge on Japanese pop culture to give French-speaking readers the best transcription of Danny’s words.

mukyaa~!!

The domain name and blog’s title draw their inspiration from one of those stupid screams you can hear from some scatterbrained anime characters. This one is from Megumi “Nodame” Noda, main heroine of dorama/anime/manga Nodame Cantabile. And I love it. That was for the title explanation, in case you were wondering.

Purpose

mukyaa.com is just another “photoblog” among the unlimited web, focusing on plastic figurines and toys of fictive characters from Japanese pop culture, in other words animes, mangas, video games etc.

Origin

I started blogging about figures and other anime-related stuff in 2006, not so long after discovering this universe. Greatly inspired by top actor of the international otaku blogosphere Danny Choo, and super photographer Super Rats, I shared my first pictures on the former version of figure.fm, whose amazing growing and motivating community pushed me to improve myself, to become more creative and to enjoy more and more photography and figures. It became a true passion, and led to the birth of mukyaa.com, a support for me to share this figure enjoyment the way I wanted.

Animes, Games & Figures

Since I categorize mukyaa.com in the anime blogosphere, here are some random points to describe my likings for this domain.

  • Most influential anime : I would say Dragon Ball Z, because it followed me during a long period of my childhood. But I can’t omit Love Hina, since it is the first anime I watched with original Japanese voices, and which plunged me into “otakuism”. The power of harem animes, uh?
  • Top 3 animes : a recurring question, so I thought I should answer it.
    • Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu
    • Azumanga Daioh
    • School Rumble

With so many great shows, it is really hard to make such a short selection. So I based my choice on animes I really enjoyed, animes I have watched more than once, and will watch again for sure. And regarding this criterion, it seems my favorite anime category is school life comedy. With episodes generally independant, and simple story line, it is in my opinion the best thing for easy entertainement. I like for example watching a random episode of Fumoffu during lunch break. Not to mention Sagara and Harima are so hilarious.

  • Favorite anisong artist : I guess this won’t surprise anyone, and some may already know about it. Answer is Mizuki Nana. It is hard to explain why but I really love her works. I mean all of her works, way beyond what she sings for animes. And she is really cute!
  • Favorite seiyuu : Kawasumi Ayako. gyaboo~!! She is Nodame’s voice actress, and also gave her voice to a ton of great anime characters.
  • Top figure : tough one. I think every figure I own has been my favorite the moment I received it. Now if I had to keep only one, I think it would be GSC Char Rhousemann third Shuraki… or maybe GSC Konjiki no Yami, for more sentimental reasons. But I hope I won’t have to make that choice ^^;
Moreover, I deceided to change my collection’s orientation, mainly focusing on Max Factory Figma serie. I really fell in love with those little action figures, coming with a lot of accessories and for a really reasonable price, compared to the increasing one for 1:8 and other complete models. For more information, data ans statistics about my figure collection, you may want to check out my profile at MyFigureCollection.net.
  • Most influential game : Final Fantasy VII, without any hesitation. It was like a revolution for me when I dicovered it, since it was the very first time I ever played to a game with active time battle system, but also a game with such an entertaining and moving story. My biggest expectation for video games is definitely a PS3 version of FFVII.

That’s it for the main lines which give you an overview of my preferences. Feel free to ping me if you want to know more or just chat ^^
