WitchBlade
After Masane wearing he casual clothes, time has come to upgrade her with the true power of the WitchBlade!
This figure sculpted by Satoshi Ishiyama and manufactured by Orchid Seed is finally what is was looking for about this nice anime adaptation of the WitchBlade. That is to say a figure that shows all the vastness of her sharp hair, shows her power to create huge blades and also her bloodthirsty yellow eyes. I’m also glad that she was modelized according to the DVD version design, and not the censured TV version, which cover much more skin with the “armor”. It may sounds perverse, but I think this suits better the WitchBlade to have a lot of nudidy, like the first one from Michael Turner’s comics.
Below, you can see how this figure comes out of her box. There are two blades, a little one in case you don’t have enough space.
I admit I had some troubles setting her hair with my big fingers… and at last, I felt very happy once done with that.
What I love about this character is her eyes (yeah… her eyes, in both meaning of the term), with this evil look full of craving for fight and blood.
That’s also funny Yusuke calls Masane “Masamune”, because of her big breast (“mune” means breast, for those who don’t already know that). This is completely off-topic, but it’s also the name of Sephiroth’s sword, and I don’t if there is a link, but I can imagine one, just because of this huge blade.
There are few flaws, obviously. Mainly about the sculpt, but only visible if you do pay attention to it. If I had to rate this figure like it is usualy done on Heisei Democracy, I would also give her a 8/10.
Above, the only “complete figure” picture. That wasn’t easy to shoot her entirely. And below, a little size comparison with Alter’s Masane.
On the first’s box, you can read 1/6 scale. On the second’s, 1/8 scale. Look for the mistake… I still can’t understand how scale is defined. I guess that because of her huge blade Orchid Seed’s figure is said to be 1/6, but that’s stupid since without it, she looks much more to a 1/8 scale figure. In term of centimeters, from top to toe, she is about 21cm (without considering her raised arms), against 20cm for “casual” Masamune. And she reachs almost 40cm with the blade. Anyway…
Actually this doesn’t bother me. Before I received her, I was affraid the figure were too tall. I’m not really into big 1/6 scale figures in fact. And now I’m pretty happy of her real height which go together well with the flexible-chest Masane.
Now I’m waiting for the Alter’s power-up version of the WitchBlade ;)
