di:stage

A while ago I decided to purchase some di:stage stands to have cutomized supports for my beloved figma figures. Those di:stage accessories were awaiting in a box somewhere until recently when I finally decided to “build” something for the Lucky Star team.

I used both clear and black types, which I think look pretty cool once combined together like a chessboard. But I don’t have enought to make a giant one and play chess with figmas. I am sure it would be awesome! “I capture your Nanoha knight with my Saber Lily queen! hahahaha”

And like Blowfish said, I also bought some “keep the dirty dust from my precious figmas” di:stage clear-case addons. I thought it might be interresting to try, and see how good it is to keep the dirty dust away. And at the end it would look like a mini portable showcase ^^

On the instructions, it is said that you can put another level above… I wonder if those who drawn the plan have even tried to do so. Considering the given pieces, it is impossible! or I didn’t get how to proceed. So if anyone managed to stack another panel up, I would be happy to know how ^^;;

Work in progress… assembling the case sides.

And some close-up shots, starting with Minami, Hiyori and Yutaka. Somehow I had to let those three together ^^;

Konata, who looks a bit lonely, doesn’t she?
Ah! Just realised that I forgot the Lucky Star cat mascot… will place it next to Konata then!

Miyuki advising Tsukasa who’s having trouble with her cellphone again. My favorite ^^;

Then Kagami groaning at Misao.

And here is a global view.
I am quite satisfied about the final result, since I had few troubles posing the figmas – especially the Minami/Hiyori/Yutaka trio – and having them fit in the narrow space. Yeah, at the end, those clear case di:stage sets don’t leave much space to put a figma AND its plastic backing. As you can see on the last picture below, figmas have too be placed on the very front. Which doesn’t offer many possibilities and pose choices. So be aware of this if you absolutely want to protect your figmas from evil dust.

Now I would like to do the same with Haruhi’s troop or the winter uniform version of Lucky Star girls. Any pose suggestions?
And I will have to think of another solution for Nanoha’s crew… there is definitely not enough space for those characters unless they are given plain poses.
Too sad ^^

    Wow that looks nice. Pity there is this little chink, but I guess it will protect your figmas from most of the dust ^^
    Rly looks cool altogether ^^

    btw: How good are di:stages for holding Nendos?

    yeah not really airtight ^^
    Good question, did not try to put nendoroids in a di:stage case. It should fit in pretty well, I suppose. Will check that for next article hehe.

    I always been curious about this things, though short of buying a sufficient amount for all my figmas I probably wont buy any. Such a pity to hear that these don't offer as much freedom to pose the figmas.

    Thanks nyan~ :3

    Could not afford to buy enough for all my figmas either ^^;;
    Just for the school girls actually who don't “need” crazy acrobatic poses.

    That's pretty sweet! They look like they're pretty configurable. Have you thought to try different shapes like Tetris block formations maybe? The T block would prove interesting!

    It is a bit of a shame that they're quite narrow, but it does work well with standing pose figmas like Lucky Star.

    Oh btw, awesome job with the lighting! Is there any post-photo work done to them to get that nice tint? Or is it just messing with the white balance and color settings?

  • http://www.mukyaa.com lu-k

    mmh a T configuration, sounds interresting indeed. Could be a solution to offer some depth.

    Hehehe I was waiting for such a comment. Sharp eyes! as expected from an expert like you.
    Actually, I have found some interesting color balance settings lately, and already applied them on few previous pictures. That's the all I can do with post-photo work : color balance and brightness/contrast adjustments ^^;
    Since you asked, I will share this on a next article, and will look forward your thoughts about it!

    This is a much more attractive way of displaying, i just chuck mine on a shelf! lol
    Really like how youve posed them for the display too :3

  • http://www.mukyaa.com lu-k

    Hehe well, even in this di:stage case, they are displayed on a shelf. But it adds a kind of 'precious' aura ^^;;
    And thanks. I tried to recreate the right atmosphere with these characters.

    You should play a bit more with the legs.. don t know.. maybe make one jumping.. another with only one leg up, etc.. It s an idea.. but for know all the leg are in the same position..

    :-P

    btw, really nice shots! I love your photos :-D

  • http://www.mukyaa.com lu-k

    Aaah you're right! Didn't pay much attention to the legs. It may look even more lively! thanks ^^

    no prob :-D

    Haha thanks for the mention ^^
    Its quite a bummer that the case itself is limiting poseability since this is the whole selling point of the Di:stages imho.
    I gotta say that the endresult looks pretty nice though
