Son Goku
It has been a while since last time I have been interrested in Dragon Ball Z goods. But the flame has been revived recently, after I purchased Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit game for xBox360. Meeting again with Goku and all the DBZ crew was really moving, especially since I could plunge again into the great Saiyajin, Frieza and Cell sagas, with great graphics, and most of all, original japanese voices. So wonderful. It gave me shudders ^^;
Next step was the purchase of a Capsule Corp t-shirt. Quite sober but evocative toward fans. I proudly wear it hehe.
And consequently, after seeing what Medicom Toy was preparing, and since I missed some Dragon Ball figures… here is the result ^^;
12-inch action dolls are sure from another category. I was already impressed by the work done on Misa and Light, but I managed to restrain myself, mostly due to the price. But at last, the child inside me took the upper hand, and Goku and future Piccolo got me.
Though, there doesn’t seem to be differences between the scupt and paint job of those tall action figures and the complete models I use to collect. Some ALTER or GSC products look even better regarding this aspect.
The impressive part, first of all, is the real clothes and how well made they are. All is very accurate. However, I have read some fans think that the orange of Goku’s uniform is too light, but that does not shock me at all.
The two straps of his blue belt contain metal wires so that is it possible to set them in the way we want, giving windy impression etc… the only irritating thing is that its hook-and-loop fastener breaks easily. But that’s only a detail.
Then the number of articulation points offers a large range of possibilties, and feel really robust, compared to fragile little Figmas and Nendoroids. Even the neck has an articulation system joint, wisely hidden by a softer plastic. See, this kind of material does not only serve for flexible chests ^^;
Question to Medicom RAH serie fans : how do you consider anime charcter dolls such as Lelouch, Misa, Light, Goku… compared to comic character like the recently annonced Batman and Joker? Less interresting? Same quality? do you collect both?
Since I have absolutely zero knowledge about this kind of figure, I was wondering what experts think about the emergence of the anime world in this category of figures, so far populated by comic and movie world ^^

Kaioken!! (original picture here)
A little aside topic about “what-figure-to-buy” rules, made to be broken. Let me continue this little story.
So, last rule infringed was about trading figures, because of ARIA gashapons, remember? Well, actually, I could have add to the list the “no action figure” rule. One I barely respected, until Figmas appeared.
What is remaining then? nothing much, really. Now, as long as I am seduced by a figure, I would grab it. No more additional rules to assist my conscience, last surety of my self-control ^^;
I made a little swerve with this huge action doll, and I will do another one when Piccolo will be release in December. I wonder how many Dragon Ball Z character will be turned into RAH. I heard that kid Gohan would be released as well, but only available via mail order, found in Piccolo box. Like for the Super Saiyajin version of Goku, but some stores like Play-Asia seem to propose it, so I hope it would be the same for Gohan. And I would not mind a Vegeta ^^
The best of the best for me would be Cyborg 18, but I don’t have real hope about that. Anyway, Sawada Keisuke did something really cool for this Son Goku, and I am looking forward Piccolo, for great fighting scenes!

Heheh, nice to see that you’ve lost all self control :p The Son Goku Medicom is really nice indeed, thankfully I’m not too into DB nowadays so I can resist your poison ^^; I really like the muscles on Goku though xD
So the boots are made of rather stiff rubber? He looks like he stands really stably. No experience with Medicoms so I wouldn’t know, always thought they would be harder to balance =)

it makes a hole in the purse, but it’s so good to afford this kind of thing! A good action figure, 1 / 6 anything like that to appreciate all the wheels.
My wish Medicom DBZ: Goku super saiyen III ^ ^

The RAH Dolls are something special.I like how they pay attention to the Characters Outfit and try to recreate it faithfully with “realistic” material.
One of my first Figures at all was a RAH Rei Ayanami i bought last December for 80% off.I would have never bought her for the original price.Im glad that i bought her because they recreated the Plugsuit excellent with the use of synthetic id say leatherlike material,hard ABS material and even her bandages are real.
She isnt that poseable tough.May be due to the fact that shes an older model or that the plugsuit is so tight.
How poseable is Goku?Thats the most important thing about a Fighter Character after all

shino : I have not completely lost it… not completely (*tries to convince himself T_T)
About boots, yeah kindly.Goku is very well balanced, and quite easy to set in various poses. After that, it my very first Medicom RAH figure, so I can’t generalize.
mikiwank : 3rd transformation… mmhh this might add a lot of weight to the rear ^^;
Actually, I am not really into transformations. I like Goku and Vegeta in their normal form. Kid Gohan and Trunks (during Cell saga) look cool though into super saiyajin to me ^^
Blowfish : even real bandages ? woho must look great. Goku is very poseable. No need to try hard to have him stand well, as long as his two feet touch the ground. Quite well balanced. That’s a very good point.

You failed ^^;
Your Goku seems to stand better than my Misa or Light. Is it ?
So I think you are like me, only one rule remains: no bust :D

i used to have rules about what kind of figures i was “allowed to buy” I had set them up only to curb my impulsive buying. But really with certain figures get released all rules are thrown out the window. He really looks amazing but the price is the only thing that stops me from buying the Rah Action figures.

James : For now I am not “playing” with it anymore… until I received Piccolo. Can’t wait to re-create those awesome battle scenes that made me dream in my youth :D
JC : yeah, better balanced. I don’t even need the support bar taht comes with. He stands on his own. Good boy Goku ^^
Yeah your right, I can say I still don’t buy busts. And I honestly think I never will. (I hope I won’t…^^)
Dancing Queen : hehe yeah, exactly. Rules set to restrain our impulsive behaviour… but at last, the are almost all sent to the basket.

cool review - would have loved a lot more action pose shots though (firing the kamehameha, for instance!)
I”ve only recently started buying articulated figures, and they’re fun to pose from time to time!
I’m actually interested in the super saiyan version but, as others have pointed out, they are a bit expensive!

That’s a really nice figure of Goku! One of the most classic heroes of all time. Saved the world from many villains! He’s in a very nice stance in this figure, I love it.
It’s cool how you don’t only collect bishoujo figures. A true collector indeed ;).

I stumbled on this entry a little late but anyways… Awesome figure, I was tempted by the RAH Goku as well :) I own Medicom’s Ed and Al from Fullmetal Alchemist and like on Goku, they did an awesome job on the details. Ed’s clothes are all really well made; his jacket has wire so it can be posed, his pants are leather-like, and they did a really nice job on the detail of his pocket watch and everything really. Al is really nice but doesn’t move as well since, well, he’s a giant suit of armor. (Ed is ultra poseable though) I don’t own them, but the Batman series looks nice based on Medicom’s attention to detail in clothing etc but since they are from live action, I think they had a harder time capturing the look of the actors’ faces. So, I think Medicom does well on all of their figures, but I prefer their anime ones since I think the likeness is usually spot-on :)
