Rei, Fly me to the Moon
Finaly! I got a figure of her!
Even if there are a lot of products on the subject, I’ve never found one according to my tastes. Well, not really, since I liked the Alter’s one in plugsuit but missed it.
However, I managed to grab Asuka, and already have two figures of the red popular “Second Children”.
Anyway! Let me introduce my very first lovely Rei Ayanami figurine : tadadam!
No plugsuit, no school uniform, no goth-loli things, no swimsuit… so what?
A beautiful high standing party dress. Who would have guess Rei would love luxury haha. She who is so disinterested.
Those clothes may be irrelevant, I admit. But, this is the first time Rei looks attractive to me, honestly.
A simple, cheap but very nice figure, as expected from Kotobukiya, as usual, with always the same amount of manufacturing artifact interference, but nothing to be worried about.
This felted blue base is the one coming with this charming figure. That suits her perfectly, and is quite original. As well as this lying pose, which draws lovely curves.

Picture of the “underneath”, to have a better view of the patterns of her party dress
The only issue about this kind of pose, is that it doesn’t offer a lot of possibilities for photographers ^^;
Angles of view are quite limited. But that’s not really the aim of a figure to be photogenic, after all.
Above, I added the bust of my Revoltech EVA-00′, to reminds to folks you never heard about Evangelion that Rei, the “First Children”, pilots it. I like this shot.
At last, I feel reassured. Rei is exactly the same scale as previous Shinji (and Kaworu) Kotobukiya figure, and they make a nice duet (or trio).
I say that because the gothic-lolita Asuka, also from Kotobukiya, is bigger, and the size difference is noteworthy. So! I need a third Asuka to make a good quartet now. But my choice is already made, and this one visible on Sector 6 blog is on the way home!

Congrats on getting a Rei figure. I never heard of a felted base, but it does match the Rei figure in a night dress. I would still prefer something where she’s in a plug suit or school uniform. The way she smiles reminds me of the Rei from Angelic days, total opposite personality, but the figure is still cute…in the end isn’t that what matters lol.

Cool. Nice acquisition. ^_^
I prefer them in normal dressing than in their plug suits too. I think they’re more cute that way.

Congrats on your first Rei figure!
I’m an Asuka fanboy myself, but there’s something I like about this Rei. Maybe it’s the fact that she’s not in her plug suit and in that sexy party dress instead. ^^;
Nice choice on the Asuka too. I like that one better than the Uniform Asuka Kotobukiya recently came out with.

I like what you did with background. It’s an after-party Rei^^ You created a very calm atmosphere.

Shinji looks great next to this Rei. They both have a calm serene look to them. Well matched indeed!

Originally I had this figure on pre-order from HLJ but decided to cancel it ’cause already had ordered one Gundam and pre-ordered Mirei and Haruhi, so I canceled my pre-order and now shes unavailable at HLJ.
Perhaps I’ll order her somewhere else ^^ but not now since perhaps in next Monday Zeta Gundam will arrive ^^.
The shots are great as always but her figure is really great, love those wrinkles on her dress.

rei is cute, and the pose of this figurine is nice, but I like asuka more :p I still think the best eva figurine is the kotobukiya 1/8 rei & asuka in plugsuit
nice background you have there, really suits the figurine ^^b

this figure looks pretty nice, it didn’t look as good when i was looking at the promo photos. love the setting you use for this photos

I have the Grimrock Rei and Asuka, but that’s it. I’ve kind of found most of the Rei and Asuka figures to be weak. There was one Rei in a plugsuit I thought was cool, but was sold out before I got to it. Really though, I would like a Misato figure.
And sadly, sometimes the more unconventional the pose, the fewer photo opportunities you have with a figure.

Nice shots! The figure looks really nice and tempting :/ Have no idea where a party dress can fit in with most figures that are in uniform or the like though. But then again, it might be great to have it stand out ^_^

Very nice photos. I myself don’t have any figures of Rei or Asuka and I don’t plan to either. Not really a fan of the Eva line of figures since there are so many of them.

Thanks for the kind words guys! :)
AS : yeap this smile makes her completely different from the Rei we use to know, but I like this kind of lovely face ^^
I miss one in plugsuit though.
El Servas : usualy I prefer figures closed from the original anime/manga. Exceptions happen some times hehe. I was seduced by this dress version of Rei.
aka_ugly : hehe so do I, so do I ^^
The school uniform Asuka looks to “childish” to me. I prefer when she’s confused, mad or crying. That’s may sounds odd, but this is the way I like Asuka.
phamalous & Radiant : yes they sure relase a very calm feeling. That’ also explain why I choose this other Asuka who isn’t as energic as she uses to be.
Belela-san : no easy to manage both gundam and figure love T_T
ron~ : this duet is sure one of the best figures on the subject. Full of melancholy.
valho : promo shots are often crappy, especially Kotobukiya’s ^^
I used two “bead christmas garlands” to decorate the scene, and a shiny stone that I can’t remember of what ore it’s made haha (bought it during a class trip when I was 10…)
super rats : those are cute :D
The only Misato figure I saw was a beautiful resin (or may be coldcast), with a kneeling pose, handling a gun. Wonderful but so damn expensive.
And about pictures, I took only about 50 shots, and trim them the 9 I published, since a lot were very similar.
shinoai : that gives an other shade to a collection, with differents things than school girls and their famous “zettai ryouiki” (cf. Dark Mirage article) hehe ;)
Adun : we’ve almost drowned in all those Evangelion figures ^^ I had the same feeling until I was offered my first Asuka figurine. Then I wanted to find a good one in plugsuit, and at that time Alter’s 1/5 figure came out. And now I’m trying to complet the family with the Kotobukiya figures which have the same scale and look great together.

I’m not a big fan of Rei Ayanami.. or even Evangelion.. but this figurine looks good. ^_^
